Custom Printed RV Awnings
How to clean a printed RV awning
Clean printed RV awning fabric only with methods approved for its specific fabric and print coating. Identify the product first, check the care instructions, and avoid assuming that a household cleaner or a method for another canopy is safe; dry the fabric before long-term storage when conditions safely allow.

1. Identify the canopy before choosing a cleaner
The hardware brand does not necessarily identify the fabric now installed on it. A previous owner may have replaced the canopy, and printed fabric can use a different construction or coating from the original. Find the order information or fabric specification and ask for the relevant care instructions before applying a cleaning product.
Dometic directs customers to model-specific support and separates vinyl and acrylic guidance in its awning manuals. Those references show why there is no universal cleaning recipe for all RV awnings. Their instructions for a particular product should not be presented as approval for every printed replacement fabric sold by a different supplier.
2. Check that it is safe to work
Follow the hardware manufacturer’s deployment and operating guidance. Do not extend an awning with damaged arms, uncertain mounts, binding movement or unsafe weather conditions just to clean it. Keep your working position stable and avoid reaching from improvised platforms. Heavy moving parts and stored spring tension are not part of a routine cleaning task.
Look at the canopy before starting and photograph any existing damage. Note tears, edge wear, seam concerns or irregular rolling so a cleaning attempt is not confused with an earlier problem. If you are concerned about delivered fabric or an existing order, send the business clear photos and order details before attempting an aggressive treatment.
3. Use only the confirmed care method
Ask which cleaning products, tools and rinsing methods are approved for the specific fabric and printed surface. Do not assume bleach, solvents, abrasive brushes, strong detergent or a pressure washer are suitable. Dometic advises against aggressive detergents and pressure washing for certain PVC products, but the correct method for your print still needs its own confirmation.
If the applicable instructions call for a test in an inconspicuous area, follow that instruction before treating a large visible section. Do not interpret a small test as permission to use a product the maker has prohibited. Avoid scrubbing a printed logo or repeatedly treating a stubborn stain without advice about the coating.
4. Handle stains and mould cautiously
A stain can have a different cause from ordinary surface dirt. Identify what happened, how long the mark has been present and what products have already touched it. Share those details when asking for guidance. Mixing cleaners or trying successive household remedies can create a separate problem and make it harder to assess the original concern.
We do not promise that every stain can be removed or that cleaning will restore faded graphics. Do not apply a new waterproofing treatment, protective spray or polish unless it is approved for the particular fabric and print. If care instructions are unavailable, stop and ask the team rather than inventing a cleaning recipe.
5. Dry, inspect and store appropriately
Avoid prolonged storage of damp fabric. When the awning can be deployed safely, allow it to dry using the applicable care instructions before long-term storage. If unsafe weather requires rolling it up wet, prioritize safe operation and follow the manufacturer’s advice about reopening and drying when conditions improve.
After care, inspect the fabric and observe normal operation according to the hardware instructions. Stop if the assembly binds or rolls unevenly. Keep a record of the approved cleaning method with your order information so future users do not guess. For worn or damaged fabric, discuss replacement separately; our fabric order does not include hardware repairs or installation.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pressure-wash the printed fabric?
Do not assume that is safe. Some manufacturer guidance prohibits pressure washing. Confirm the care method for your exact fabric and print coating before cleaning.
Is bleach safe for every awning?
No universal bleach recommendation is made here. Material and coating instructions differ; use only treatments approved for your particular product.
What if I have no care instructions?
Contact the team with order details and identify the fabric before using cleaners. Guidance for a different canopy is not a substitute.
Should I leave it rolled up wet?
Avoid prolonged damp storage. Follow the hardware guidance and dry it when safe conditions allow; do not deploy unsafe equipment merely to dry the fabric.
