Custom Printed RV Awnings

Vinyl vs acrylic awning fabric

Vinyl awning fabric is typically laminated, while acrylic is woven and breathable; neither is universally better for every RV. Compare the specific fabric’s water handling, care instructions and hardware compatibility before choosing, and do not assume this comparison means we offer an acrylic option.

The basic difference

Carefree describes its vinyl awning fabric as laminated and waterproof, and its acrylic fabric as woven and breathable. Those descriptions help explain the broad trade-off: a continuous barrier versus a woven textile that allows airflow.

These are manufacturer descriptions, not promises about every vinyl or acrylic product. Coatings, seams, construction and care all matter. Neither material makes an awning safe to use in strong winds or under pooled water.

General material comparison; check the individual canopy specification.

CareDirt can support mildew, especially when fabric is stored wet.Follow the maker’s instructions for the weave and any protective treatment.

Which one is better for an RV?

There is no universal winner. Consider how you use the awning, how often you can dry and clean it, the manufacturer’s fabric specification and the installation requirements. Breathability is a material characteristic, not a guaranteed temperature reduction.

Do not choose based on an unsupported lifespan or a blanket claim that one material is always cheaper. Compare the actual warranty, product scope and supplier’s care instructions.

What about our printed replacement fabric?

Our current product information describes vinyl replacement fabric; this comparison is not an offer of an acrylic option. If material construction, weight or a particular performance rating is important to your order, ask the team to confirm the specification before approval.

Printing is CMYK only. Choosing a material does not create an exact color-match guarantee. The order is replacement fabric for compatible existing hardware, not a complete awning system.

Questions to ask before switching materials

  • Does the exact canopy specification suit my awning model and attachment system?
  • What water-resistance and care instructions apply to this product?
  • Is my artwork compatible with the supplier’s print process?
  • What is included in the quote, and what installation work is separate?

Start with the measuring guide, then have the model and hardware reviewed. A correct arm-center measurement alone does not confirm a material substitution will fit.
